Cover article—Congratulations to the research team on paper on the mechanism of plasma treatment of onychomycosis published in "Plasma Processes and Polymers"!


Congratulations to our research team on paper officially published by "Plasma Processes and Polymers" and selected as the cover article of the journal, with the title "On the mechanisms of surface micro-discharge plasma treatment of onychomycosis: penetration, uptake, and chemical reactions".

Low temperature plasma has great advantages in the treatment of onychomycosis, but the interaction mechanism between plasma and onychomycosis is not clear. Based on the interaction between the micro discharge plasma source and the nail plate on the atmospheric pressure surface, the penetration of the active components produced by the plasma to the nails of different thickness, the active components adsorbed in the nail and the antibacterial components produced by plasma acting on the nail plate were studied. The results show that the active components produced by plasma can penetrate nail tablets efficiently, which is the main reason for instantaneous sterilization. The adsorption of nail tablets on active components is dozens of times that of penetration, and antibacterial substances are produced in nail tablets during penetration, which may make nail tablets have long-term antibacterial effect.
